Tesla Show
Visitor Experience
Few times a day, groups of up to 30 people can step into the captivating world of high voltage at Sarawak Science Centre’s electrifying Tesla Show. Within 5-7 minutes, they are guided to play a keyboard which is connected to the singing Tesla coil creating stunning up to 2m long arcs of lightning that illuminate the stage with their brilliance.
They experience the awe-inspiring phenomenon of fluorescent tubes mounted onto the wall glowing in vibrant hues when exposed to high voltage currents and are explained the ingenuity of the Faraday suits as it protects its occupant from the powerful forces of electricity, demonstrating the principles of electrostatic shielding in a visually stunning display.
Metallic suits protect the explainers while catching arcs and doing experiments like measuring the magnetic field around the coil, or provide metallic gloves to visitors so that they can touch the arcs themselves while staying behind a farraday cage to watch the show.
A special protection system prevents visitors to come too close to the coil.
